We were delighted to welcome residents and community groups to last week’s Community Roots Fund information event at The Black Gull Community Venue on Grimsby Docks, which saw a fantastic turnout and a strong level of interest from across the East Marsh.
The Community Roots Fund is a new participatory budgeting programme designed to put decision-making power directly into the hands of local people. Through the fund, residents and community groups can apply for grants of between £500 and £10,000 to deliver projects that benefit the East Marsh.
These projects must link to key themes within the East Marsh Community Plan, including home, community, work, health and wellbeing, and the environment. Local people will then have the opportunity to vote on which projects they would most like to see funded.
The event provided an opportunity for attendees to learn more about the fund, ask questions and begin shaping ideas for projects that matter to them. There was a real sense of energy in the room, with many people keen to get involved and take forward community-led change.
We were also pleased to be joined by the MP for Great Grimsby, Melanie Onn, who attended to hear more about the fund and its potential to support local communities.
Applications for the Community Roots Fund will open on 1st June. Those interested in finding out more or applying are encouraged to get in touch by emailing info@eastmarshunited.org.
East Marsh United looks forward to supporting local people to turn their ideas into reality and continuing to build a stronger, more connected community.
