At East Marsh United, we often talk about the power of community – but sometimes, that power shows itself in the simplest and most meaningful ways.
One of our tenants, Clare, has recently been going through a very difficult time and spent a period in hospital. She shared with fellow EMU tenant Carol how much she was looking forward to returning home and being able to enjoy her garden again with her children.
Carol didn’t hesitate. She reached out to the EMU team, and together, a plan quickly came together to make that wish a reality.
On a chilly Friday morning, the “garden gang” arrived and got straight to work. Led brilliantly by Carol, the team worked tirelessly to transform Clare’s outdoor space into somewhere warm, welcoming and ready to be enjoyed. What had been a difficult time was met with kindness, action and a real sense of togetherness.
The impact of this effort was immediate and deeply felt. For Clare and her family, the finished garden wasn’t just a physical transformation – it was a moment of joy, comfort and hope when it was needed most. Now, she and her children can spend time outside, relax and enjoy the sunshine together.

This project wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of our wider network. We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Cleethorpes Business Connections for generously supplying materials, and to Mick Henson (P3LM), Simon Blissett (Red Se7en Electrical Contractors) and Tom at Parkside Carpets for their kindness and support.
A special thank you also goes to Gaz Leshone and his fantastic team at Expert Renovations, whose hard work helped bring everything together so seamlessly.
Most of all, thank you to everyone who played a part – whether through time, resources, or simply stepping forward to help a neighbour.
This is what community looks like.
