Pedal Power in the East Marsh: The Rutland Street Community Project Launches

East Marsh United is proud to announce an exciting new initiative that’s set to get our community moving, healthier and more connected. In partnership with North East Lincolnshire Council and R-evolution, we’ve launched the Rutland Street Community Project – a programme designed to encourage cycling and make it easier for East Marsh residents to enjoy the benefits of getting active on two wheels.

The project kicked off today (Thursday, September 18) at Grant Thorold Park and will run every Thursday from 12:30pm to 4:30pm. It’s open to everyone in the East Marsh, whether you’re an experienced rider, a casual cyclist or even someone who hasn’t ridden for years but wants to give it another go.

What’s on offer?

When you bring your bike down to the park, you’ll be able to take advantage of a whole host of free activities and support, including:

  • Guided bike tours to explore the local area safely and confidently
  • 🔧 Free safety checks and mobile repairs to keep your bike in top condition
  • 🎓 Bike mechanic training to help you learn new skills and take charge of your own maintenance
  • 💡 Free bike lights to ensure you can ride safely after dark
  • 🎁 A bike giveaway competition offering a chance to win your very own set of wheels

Why it matters

Cycling isn’t just about getting from A to B. It’s about wellbeing, independence and connection. By helping people gain access to bikes, learn maintenance skills and ride together, we’re working to improve physical health, reduce isolation and build stronger, greener communities right here in the East Marsh.

Join us

We’d love to see as many local residents as possible getting involved. Whether you want to fix up an old bike, join a tour, or just see what’s happening, come along to Grant Thorold Park on Thursdays and be part of this growing movement.
