A Blooming Success: Our ‘Make Your Own Wildflower Planter’ Event

Last weekend, St John, St Stephen & Shalom in the heart of the East Marsh came alive with creativity, community spirit and a love for nature. As part of our ongoing Greening the Marsh project, we hosted a Make Your Own Wildflower event in partnership with Grow Wild – and what a wonderful time we had.

Local families rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in, crafting their very own wooden planters. Thanks to the skill and generosity of Andy Watts, who cut and pre-drilled all the wood in advance, everyone – from the youngest helpers to the most seasoned DIY-ers – could join in and make something beautiful.

Once built, the planters were filled with bright, colourful wildflowers, ready to bring a touch of nature to the streets and homes of the East Marsh.

One of the highlights? Seeing families proudly wheel their new planters home in trolleys, ready to nurture and watch them grow. The smiles said it all – this wasn’t just about plants, it was about pride, connection and a greener community.

We’re incredibly grateful to Kew Garden’s Grow Wild fund for making this possible with their generous support. Their funding helped turn an idea into a hands-on project that will leave a lasting splash of colour in the East Marsh.

It’s safe to say we had a terrific time. And now, we’re already wondering – what can we make next?

Stay tuned… 🌱
