Get involved with our Reading Group!

We are setting up a reading group!

East Marsh United are setting up a community reading group and YOU are all invited to join us for the first conversation. We will be talking all about the book we are basing our reading group around – the Ragged Trousered Philanthropists

This is happening on Wednesday 14th July 7:00pm – 9:00pm.

The discussion will happen on a Zoom call and the audio will be recorded for an episode of our ‘East Marshian Chronicles’ podcast.

We were going to read it together start to finish, but it really is a doorstop and it would just take too long! Fortunately, the arrival of the graphic novel of the book plus the audiobook version means that we can mix it all up a bit and tease out the most significant aspects of the work using all three versions (here’s the original online).

We have four copies of the book by the remarkable sisters Scarlett and Sophie Rickard, so let us know if you would like one and we’ll get it to you asap (and please do, we want to see them used!) Get in touch with billy@eastmarshunited.org about this or any other questions.

If you want to get involved, here’s what to do:

Listen to both podcast interviews with the remarkable Rickard Sisters (second one is out on Tuesday 13th July): https://eastmarshianchronicles.buzzsprout.com/

Read or listen to as much of the book as you can and just come along and share your thoughts in a friendly and open discussion

Make sure you have a notepad and pen ready to jot a few thoughts down as you go.

We have never done this before so we’re very excited to see what you make of it – and our East Marsh Community Education branch belongs to all of us, so let’s make it something special!

Save the date: Wednesday 14th July 7:00 – 9:00pm.
