Homes that belong to our community
Bought, done up, and kept in local hands.
100 homes for 100 years
East Marsh United is buying and refurbishing houses, turning them into safe, affordable “forever homes.” These homes belong to the community and are cared for by people who live here. As ethical landlords, we put tenants first, making sure they have a real say in how their homes and neighbourhoods are looked after.
We’re transforming run-down streets and we’re determined to go further – our goal is 100 homes for 100 years.

Our page for tenants has useful information and documents, all in one place.
Take a look at what we've been up to
-
We became a Community Benefit Society in 2020.
-
Community Share Success
In 2022, our community share offer raised £500,000. That money helped us buy seven more houses and refurbish them with the help of local contractors. It showed what’s possible when neighbours invest in neighbours.
-
18 Forever Homes
In just a few years, we’ve bought and renovated 16 houses on the East Marsh. Each one is now a safe, warm, affordable place for a local family. These are “forever homes” — cared for by us, not sold for profit.
-
I was on phone to my child’s asthma nurse earlier and she said how much happier and relaxed I sound since we’ve moved so a big thank you for giving us a beautiful house

Tenants Leading the Way
Our tenants aren’t just renters – they’re part of the EMU family.
Every month, the tenants’ group meets to plan workshops, organise trips and seasonal events and raise ideas for the future.
Together, they’re proving that housing can be about community, not just bricks and mortar.
-
24/7 peace of mind
Our tenants never need to worry about repairs, as round-the-clock maintenance is provided by a trusted local contractor.
-
It means so much to us to have a nice house we can now call a home and not just a shell. We’re supported by such wonderful people and have landlords who really care.

We received a half-million pound low-interest loan from Esmée Fairbairn Foundation to buy more homes.

We're working with our tenants on energy affordability
As ethical landlords, we’re working with the community to help them reduce energy costs.
Events like our Energy Playday on Rutland Street help make their homes truly affordable
