Community

Neighbours looking out for each other, sharing meals, stories and support.

Life is brighter when we look out for each other. On the East Marsh, neighbours know that a friendly word, a shared meal or a helping hand can make all the difference.

Neighbours looking out for each other

Sharing meals, stories and support to connect people.

Caring for the whole East Marsh

East Marsh United is creating spaces where people connect, talk and feel supported. From weekly gatherings to family festivals, from choirs to community plans, we’re strengthening the bonds that hold us together.

When we care for each other, we care for the whole East Marsh.

Take a look at what we've been up to

  • Talking Tuesdays

Every Tuesday, residents gather to share views, stories and support. What began as a small discussion group has grown into a lively space where people celebrate each other’s successes and plan their own events. The group is even moving towards setting up its own fundraising committee – proof of local energy in action.

  • Warm Wednesdays

With support from Asda’s Community Fund, we ran a five-week pilot offering hot meals for families. Around 40 residents came together each week to enjoy food, children’s activities and companionship. For many, it was a welcome boost in difficult times and a reminder that no one should feel left behind.

  • Everyone is so kind, genuine and down-to-earth. I look forward to every Tuesday because of Talking Tuesdays and the East Marsh Peace Choir, and on the days in between I meet up with the friends I've made here. EMU is like my chosen family.

  • SEND Festival welcomed children with additional needs and their families to play, create and belong.

  • Glastonbabies 2025

Families, friends and neighbours came together at Cleethorpes Cricket Club for a family festival packed with music, laughter and creativity. The afternoon featured live performances from local musicians, a silent disco, storytelling, face painting and hands-on arts and crafts. From the enchanting Teddy Bear’s Campsite to the bustling wellbeing area, the event celebrated imagination, togetherness and community spirit.

  • Kitchen Table group gave residents a regular place to meet at Freeman Street Market.

  • Six Feet of Your Street

One of earliest campaigns – six feet of your street showed the world we like to do things differently and brought neighbours together to clean and brighten their streets.

  • RAW project

We introduced young people to the joy of making music together.

  • Partnerships with schools opened doors to new cultural experiences.

What's next?

  • Launch the first full version of the Community Plan in 2025.
  • Share the plan widely — in meetings, on the website and out in the streets.
  • Grow participatory budgeting, giving residents the power to decide how a £14,000 fund is spent locally.
  • Support a community quilt project where people stitch their hopes and dreams for the East Marsh.
  • Develop short courses led by residents to build skills, confidence and self-esteem.
  • Strengthen partnerships with national organisations like Opera North, bringing fresh opportunities home to the East Marsh.
