We’re having our third ragged reading group on Wednesday and are exploring J.B Priestley’s ‘An Inspector Calls’.
All welcome to come along and join the conversation, which will be facilitated by Josie and Carolyn, both previously teachers of English and excellent facilitators.
Write to me at billy@eastmarshunited.org for details of the event in the world (on the East Marsh) or for the Zoom link.
Here are two versions of an electronic copy of the play – it is quite a quick read, but very rewarding – and if you want to watch the film of the play, the best version is the 2015 one with David Thewlis playing the Inspector (the one with lovely Alastair Sim from 1954 takes great dramatic licence, moving away from the structure of the work and plays down the bite of the social commentary in favour of a romantic view of the world).
And look out for Tuesday’s podcast next week (the day before), which is a conversation with historian Nick Shepley, who gives us some insight into the historical background of the play’s setting and Priestley’s own times.
