Mariners Rest update

East Marsh United sadly confirm that their proposed acquisition of the Mariners Rest pub, situated on the junction of Albion Street and Oxford Street, Grimsby, will no longer take place.

EMU’s aim was to acquire the remainder of the lease from the current leaseholder, then to negotiate with the landlord for a longer 100 year lease. EMU planned to convert the pub into a East Marsh community hub; a one-stop shop for local residents, their friends and families to meet and to have a drink, but also use for community activities ranging from homework clubs to gardening, from birthday parties to community events/clubs. An agreement could not be reached with the current leaseholder and EMU were left with no option but to withdraw from the project.

Many parties were involved in progressing the project, and EMU are grateful for support from PlunkettUK, from solicitors, architects, surveyors involved, to everyone involved in the consultation event, and also to a team of volunteers who formed a working group and even gardened and tidied the land repeatedly last summer free of charge.
